At the outset a huge thanks to Ashbourne for allowing us to wait until 11am before confirming the game and then for travelling
3 second half tries sealed a bonus point win for Bingham in what turned into a hard-fought game.
Bingham was quick out of the blocks with Jonathan Thomas threatening from a scrum pick up. A turnover with a charge down again threatened the line. Another turnover and a decisive break from Harry Lister making his come back after a broken hand back in November fed Oscar Ciaurro on a great line to score under the posts. Will Packer added the conversion.
A good period of interplay and the backs are just short; Adam Deal collects a clearance kick and runs back strongly to set up a ruck 10m out and a couple picks later, Will Packer gets the ball blind, scores in the corner and adds the conversion from the touchline 14 - 0
Ashbourne come back into the game with a cutting move from the fly-half making a clean break on halfway 14 - 7
Bingham appeared to take the foot off the pedal and shocked from the score as Ashbourne began to exert pressure and looked dangerous each time they ran the ball. A penalty gave Ashbourne field position and a great forward drive off a line out provided good ball and the backs did the rest 14 - 14 with 10 mins to half time.
Anthony Thomas follows his own kick, charges down and forces a penalty which is put to the Ashbourne 22 but unable to threaten. The half comes to a nervy end with Bingham unable to convert a turnover - Halftime 14 - 14
A great break from the backs in own half gets us close but a loose kick brings the move to an end.
A key point in the game comes as Bingham exert pressure but a fumble is collected by the Ashbourne 10 and breaks clear and only a determined chase from Pete Coppack saved the day.
Back into the Ashbourne half and the ball out to Jamie Graham who gets over the line, Will Packer adds the conversion.
Bingham gets a penalty shortly after and Will Packer stretches the lead to 10.
Jonathan Thomas is fed down the middle from a short line but the ball is dropped as it gets wide.
Ashbourne's turn for some pressure on the Bingham Line and whilst holding firm, Jonathan Thomas is shown yellow for persistent infringement. Despite a man down Bingham pull together and push back each surge from Ashbourne and ultimately force a fumble.
5m from the Bingham line and expecting a clearance kick, Jack Barnard picks up at 8, makes a clean break and off loads to Jamie Graham, just short and a penalty obtained. Looking for the bonus point, Bingham goes for the corner but not straight from the line out allows easy out for Ashbourne.
Bingham counter again, Oscar Ciaurro breaking blind and almost there but tackled short. the ball gets recycled and a long pass is plucked out of the air by Pete Coppack to score out wide. 29 - 10 and a bit of breathing room and bonus point secured.
Breaking out of our own half from the restart and spreading wide gets to Adam Deal who shows power to break close to the touchline. Bingham keep possession and eventually, the telling break is made and Will Packer drives for the line who offloads to Chris Pearman who finishes. Will Packer add the conversion
