A disappointing result against Stamford College OB and certainly very ring rusty.

A disappointing result against Stamford College OB and certainly very ring rusty. 2 tries a piece but with kicks and greater commitment, Stamford took the day 10 – 20.

With 11 players unavailable, a debut start and thrown in at the deep end at tight head prop was Gareth McGahan and a debut on the wing for Tom King. 3 subs - 2 recovering injuries namely Jason & Lee and Chris P far too old at 50

A bright start kicking off into the wind and Bingham having much of the possession and territory. Useful line out possession but under pressure in the scrums. Nick Leach showing early potential running back clearance kick and early penalties declined looking to run the ball and get the try. 1st time Stamford get into the Bingham 22 leads to a drop goal. Stamford fly half made a break from own half and whilst the move was stopped, penalty conceded which was run and poor tackling let the No8 in under the posts 0 – 10. Another fly half break after a drive and under the posts 0 – 17 Jason came on for Gareth just before half time with Chris Bell moving to front row. Half time came after a missed Stamford penalty.

With the wind, Bingham were able to keep good field position but good clean ball was at a premium and Stamford were far more eager. Ben McGill replaced with a back injury led to the Fretmeister coming into the 2nd row. A clearance after a scrum in the Stamford 22 was charged down and Jon Thomas collected to score 5 – 17. A penalty to Stamford took the score to 5 – 20. Jack Illston then had to leave the pitch with a knee injury. Jo Fisher moved to fly half and Chris P to full back. Again Bingham maintained position but just could not get good clean ball to move. Tom King showed excellent determination and strength when getting the ball but had little opportunity. A penalty gained by Bingham in the Stamford 22 lined up to run with the forwards down the middle but taken quickly by Tom Packer down the line to score – missed conversion 10 – 20.
