Saturday was the final game of the season and saw Bingham travelling to Worksop to play their 2nd XV with a strong side, Glen Sutton back at full back, Ben John at 9 and Alex Jones starting at No 8.

And Finally the Match Report

Bingham kicked off and were immediately in control after a dropped kick off. From the resulting scrum Paul Foster sent Chris Garrod down the middle, the ball was recycled and Bingham surged forward to be stopped by some strong Worksop defence. Pressure was maintained and from another scrum the ball was spun wide and with some good inter passing, Bingham put Will North away to go over in the corner for the opening score of the game.

The next 15 minutes saw Bingham camped on their own 22 but some resolute defence kept Worksop at bay, some strong tackling saw Bingham turn over some ball in their 22 and Alex Jones was put down the middle, he shrugged off tackles and fed the backs, a neat scissors between Andrew Birznieks and Tom Spibey and a return pass saw young Birznieks score under the posts for the try to be converted by Glenn Sutton 0 – 12.

Bingham were now full of confidence and the backs ready to run from anywhere. One occasion saw Chris Garrod carry the ball some 50 metres down field on a barn storming run with defenders hanging off his back only for him to be stopped 10 metres short of the line. Bingham were not to be denied and from a scrum inside the Worksop half the ball moved wide which allowed Andrew Birznieks to cross over beneath the posts again only for the conversion to be charged down 0 - 17.

The score line saw some panic in the Worksop ranks and resulted in a number of 1st XV backs appear on the pitch to try and stem the flow of the rampant Bingham backs. The only further incident of the 1st half saw Anthony Thomas sent to the sin bin for a 10 minute rest.

Worksop made further changes for the 2nd half at 1, 3, 8, 9 10 and 13 after already having made changes to 12, 14, and 15 midway through the 1st. Bingham brought on Chris Bell for the second half. Immediately Worksop showed their intent from the kick off and run the ball back strongly but strong defence kept them at bay, but Bingham were under pressure and just as the sin bin was due to finish Worksop crossed from a rolling maul for a converted try.

With Bingham restored to 15 players they went immediately into attack and from a period of sustained pressure Worksop conceded a penalty which Anthony Thomas slotted between the posts to make it 7 - 20. The game was end to end and there was a battle in midfield with centres from both sides breaking tackles and on 2 occasion the Worksop centres broke through only for the try line be kept intact with 2 bone crushing tackles from Glen at full back. Worksop eventually scored a further try wide out after a period pressure.

A further substitution saw Andy Watts enter the fray and Bingham piled on the pressure again spending more time in the Worksop 22 and after a series of strong scrummages, Andy Watts picked up and drove for the line only to be stopped short of the line, the back row recycled quickly and fed Chris Bell who drove over the line for another unconverted try.

Final score 12 - 25another away win and a bonus point for 4 tries.

This was an excellent performance by a young Bingham side and left the coach looking forward to September and predicting that next season that Bingham will win Pennant 3.

We are hoping to get hold of the final league positions and as soon as they are available, we will circulate together with stats for season
