Great Result and confidence booster as Bingham find the way to the line

Match Report

What a difference a week makes. From 8 unavailable last week to having 7 subs. And it certainly makes a difference with Huw confident of having a team and able to work with the lads before the game.

As reported recently, Ricardo is back in town and made an appearance on Saturday coming off the bench at half time, welcome back Ricardo.

Despite recent results, confidence appeared high and after 12 mins, Chris Bell, playing at hooker took one against the head and quick thinking from Chris Garrod in the centre switched play to create an extra man and put Tom Spibey in the corner for his debut try and a 5 – 0 lead. A kick over was recovered by Tom Packer who fed Ben McGill supporting but was held short with little support. Bingham maintained pressure and were able to provide the backs with good possession with Mick Challans looping and feeding Tom King on an incisive line to 5m out and quick ball to Tom Packer to score 10 -0. further good interpassing between Mick Challans and Chris Garrod from a Mellish clearance led to Ben McGill going over under the posts, converted by Tom, 17 – 0. on 30min, Jason Churchill gets a turnover, feeds Tom Packer down the line and recycled ball allowed Tom King to go under the posts for his debut try, converted by Tom 24 – 0.

Half time came and 6 changes made – Keith Lowthian for Chris Bell, Ricardo for Lee Stokoe, Dave Fairchild for Jason, Ian Taylor for Tom Spibey, Tom John for brother Ben & Gareth McGahan for Ben McGill. With so many changes took a while to settle down and early 2nd half pressure came from Mellish and no scores for 15 min until Jon Thomas picks up from a scrum making a great direct run allowing the ball to go to the backs and Tom Packer on a clean and direct line broke straight through the defence to score and add the conversion, 31 – 0. Chris Garrod came off to allow Mark Brenton on and Marky B made and an immediate impact making a good break linking with Tom King before Tom Packer had to leave the field with an injured elbow. Chris Garrod allowed back on and made a clean break and headed full tilt for the corner but tackled short but with Tom King supporting picked up and went over and Mick Challans added 2 to take the score to 38 – 0. JT completed the scoring with try to make the final score 43 – 0. an excellent result as next week face Pennant leaders Notts Moderns away.
