A good win in our opening competitive game and thanks to Newark for loan of Kit to avoid clash

At the outset, a big thanks to Newark RFC who allowed us use of one of their kits due to a clash of colours.

Our first competitive game this season had Stamford College OB coming to Brendon Grove in the 1st round of the NLD Plate and promised to be a good test for us as SCOB had won the NLD Plate last season.

Bingham started well having the lion’s share of possession but all was a bit rushed and went behind on 12 mins after a loose pass was intercepted and a good counter from SCOB took play to the Bingham 22 where they then recycled and attacked the open side lacking in numbers and ran in 0 – 7

A disappointing start and it took a further 10 minutes for Bingham to get on the scoreboard with a Will Packer Penalty and within 5mins took the lead following a Nick Green Break with a try being converted 10 – 7.

A 10 minute purple patch saw 3 more scores before half time; with the scrums solid and line out working well, after a passage of play, Gareth McGahan found himself out wide with the ball and he crossed the line to register his first try for Bingham.

This was followed up with a break from just inside the SCOB half and Nick Green out sprinted the defence. Alex Richards showed some good feet and was held just short but recycled ball got to Pete Mount in the corner and converted by Will Packer just about had the game won at 27 – 7 half time

The 2nd half was more even in terms of scoring but Bingham still dominating possession provided the opportunity to use all replacements. 20 mins into the 2nd half, Jonathan Thomas was held up on the line and from the resultant scrum, Nick Green goes over in the corner; Will Packer hits the post 32 – 7.

A consolation try on full time as Bingham failed to deal with a line out clearance and SCOB pick up the loose ball to score
Final score 32 – 14 and a good home win.
