Bingham grateful to Mansfield lll for agreeing to play a friendly at short notice and welcome the opportunity for all to get valuable game time

Mansfield received the kick off, took a good catch and began a drive showing Bingham this would be no pushover as they took possession right up to the Bingham 22 before Jonathan Thomas managed to steal possession and counter

An early Bingham try came care of Jamie Graham coming into the line from full back but then had to sustain a period of Mansfield pressure scrambling in defence and having a let off as Mansfield were penalised for obstruction in process of scoring
Ian Taylor led a break from the 22 to half way and a chip over into space from Andy Price led to a chase Alex Richards beaten to the ball.

Several counters eventually led to good position and after turning over the Mansfield scrum set up a maul 2m out and quick hands from Gareth Williams & Ben Packer gave possession to Jamie for his 2nd try. Converted by Ben Packer 12 – 0

The half finished with Mansfield again threatening to score taking a 2 quick tap and drives getting to the Bingham 5m line before Bingham cleared

The 2nd half showed Bingham countering well and using the backs to more effect, initial success with Mick Challans showing all how to commit and pass and put Alex Richards and Chris Garrod into to score. Andy price added the conversion 19 – 0.

Jordan Crosse put in a couple of breaks and released Jonathan Thomas who broke through the defence and ran in from 10m
The last 2 tries came later in the half as Mansfield tired; Ian Taylor making an initial break and passing to Ashley Saunders on his debut to score from 35m out. Converted by Andy price made it 31 – 0.

Ian Taylor then almost single handed kept Mansfield out as most of the Bingham stood still expecting the ref to blow for a stoppage before Jamie Graham got his hat trick breaking from his own 22 and converted himself 38 – 0

Still to get a settled side and all available but good progress and team spirit being showed with many new faces. Next week the league season starts as we welcome Skegness to Brendon Grove and hope to get good numbers down at the weekend to watch the initial RWC games – details to be confirmed
