We expected Southwell 3rds and got Southwell 2nds
Resources still very depleted and not quite sure what happened in the opening 10 minutes and probably a little stunned thinking this was Southwell 3rds.
Clearly some good players showing good moves and cohesion - 2 quick converted tries and a penalty had us looking down the barrel after 10 minutes and 17 points down
That was just the kick we needed as then began to play holding our own in scrums and line out - on 20 minutes good recycling with Harry Bowles playing in an unaccustomed fly half position got the initial break releasing Nick Green and Jamie Graham to sprint down the line to score 5 - 17
Continued pressure should have got us a 2nd try as both the backs and forwards sought to break the line but ultimately lack of continuity cost us points. Half time 5 - 17
A much tighter 2nd half where we kept scoring opportunities for Southwell to a minimum and kept the line in tact throughout the half keeping our levels of consistency up; something we have struggled with all season.
Some excellent hands and off loads in a congested 15m channel allowed Ben Jones to break free with 30 metres to go and was only forced into touch inches from the line.
A Harry Bowles Penalty made it a 9 point game but good defence from both teams prevented any further scores.
A tremendous performance coming back from an awful start and having our confidence knocked the previous week.
We now look forward with renewed assurance as we return to league action and entertain Woodhouse Giants next week
