Just what was wanted after a long lay off - a few ring rusty occassions in the first half but run out clear winners

Bingham started the game playing into a cold wind and showed good handling and a willingness to play open rugby using the backs. After casuals cleared from a 5m scrum, Nick Halstead collected the kick and immediately ran the ball back linking with Andy Birznieks feeding Tim Allatt to go over in the corner and take a 5 – 0 lead on 5 minutes.

Casuals hit back putting pressure on Bingham and errors in defence gave the ball back to Casuals who kicked over and was able to touch down in the corner 5 – 5.

Pressure defence from Bingham turned over the ball in own 22 and Tom Spibey had the opportunity to stretch his legs early on and off loaded to Andy Birznieks who in turn fed Nick Halstead with still half the pitch to go had the speed to score under the posts. Converted by Tom Packer 12 – 5. Immediately from the kick off Bingham continued to show good hands with the backs releasing Tom Spibey only to be called back for a forward pass. On 20 minutes another chip over and touch down in the corner for Casuals, 12 – 10.

A penalty from Tom Packer, 15 – 10 and then the ball showed just what it can do when you are not in control which led to a Casuals converted score under the posts and Bingham go into half time 15 – 17.

Although trailing, good confidence in the ranks as mistakes had let Causals in and the elements now in our favour. Andy Watts replaced Jason Churchill. From a line out drive Bingham were held up but from the 5 m scrum Tim Allatt picked up and drove over and converted by Tom Packer 22 – 17.

Good recycled ball found its way to Chris Bell standing wide on the line and stepped inside defenders and from the ruck, Pete Mount picked up drew the last man and fed Lee Fretwell to over unopposed in the corner. Conversion fell just short 27 – 17. Jonathan Thomas on for Pete Mount and Ian Taylor for Tom Spibey.

Casuals began to put phases together but clearances from Tom Packer took play straight back into the Casuals half and to their credit, Casuals continued to try to play but an interception from Jonathan Thomas fed Ian Taylor to score, 32 – 17.

Last 10 minutes saw a Debut for Ollie Clayt on for Lee Stokoe and Jim Cooper for Alex Jones and continued solid defence with killing tackles from Nick Halstead and Anthony Thomas ensured the line remained intact in the 2nd half. A missed last minute penalty from Tom Packer after a kick through couldn’t dampen spirits for a great win and what was an excellent game to watch for which Casuals deserve credit for the part they played in it and not forgetting all the support received on the touch line.
