A depleted Worksop arrived at Bingham and whilst without key players and not playing exceptionally well, Bingham run out easy victors 62 - 0

Bingham arrived for their league match against Worksop on the back of 4 matches without conceding a point and the confidence was showing as 22 players arrived for a well drilled match warm up expecting the regular tough physical opponents. Due to unforeseen circumstances Worksop arrived with 4 missing players, these players were supplemented by plays from the large Bingham squad.

A late notification of the scheduled referee not attending due to injury meant that coach Huw Thomas usually used to commanding Bingham from the side-lines, stepped up and volunteered to command the match with a whistle!

Bingham received the kick off with the breeze on their backs and took time to settle, a number of handling errors on the Worksop line kept the points off the score sheet. Although some excellent territory kicking from Anthony Thomas kept Worksop pinned inside their own half. However it wasn’t long before the first try came with a superb kick from Sean Toomey put the ball into the try area and gave the opportunity for Glen Sutton to chase and put enough downward pressure on the ball to add up his seasons try tally. Again Anthony Thomas used the breeze and his new found love of kicking to convert from an awkward angle.

This gave Bingham the confidence to go forward and build on their dominant start. Unfortunately the 'white line fever' was spreading and players became blinkered to some excellent support running from Chris Garrod, Tom Spibey and Will North. Special mention must go to Tim Allatt as he charged from 15 metres out to pass the Worksop defence, over the try line only to keep on running beyond the dead ball line and half way to the club house without placing the ball down......... NO TRY!! With further tries coming from Sean Toomey, Pete Mount, Jonathon Thomas and some consistent kicking from Anthony Thomas Bingham went into the break with a healthy lead.

Strong words from captain Jason Churchill in the interval for team to play as a team were heeded and from the re start Pete Mount caught the clearance kick to feed Glen Sutton, who recycled to Dave Fairchild who had the vision to give good ball to Chris Garrod, and through the hands to Lee Fretwell, Fretwell darted in field, drew the full back and handing Chris Bell the ease of going in under the posts for the try of the match. Further tries form Tom Spibey, who showed his strength and determination to go over in the corner, Sean Toomey, Glen Sutton and Tim Allatt sealed a win and vital bonus points in the chase for the title as the season is coming into the final stages.

Overall Bingham gave a good performance against a depleted Worksop side, with areas of improvement for the forthcoming matches. Special mention should go to those players who supplemented the Worksop side enabling the game to played in the good spirit that it was, especially Mike O’Brien who showed some excellent skill, running and kicking from his unfamiliar position of full back in the Worksop side.
