We were fortunate in seeing the return of Chris & Tom Spibey once again playing for Bingham Rugby. This was boosted with an appearance from Ben McGill & Nick Tasker giving us a glimpse of some magical feet and off loads - hopefully more to come.

A bit one sided but grateful to Newark for agreeing to a friendly and getting a valuable run out

An early try from Jamie Graham returning a clearance kick from Full back showing a clean pair of heels to all. Converted by Tom Packer.

A catch & drive over for Harry Bowles followed by the backs going wide to Chris Garrod to score making it 17 - 0

A Newark interception and the winger showing great speed to out sprint covering defence and run 3/4 of the length of the pitch 17 - 5

Both sides showing intent and desire but Bingham just proving too strong in all areas and making great runs into space with support providing the opportunity to offload. Oscar Ciaurro showing his speed in the loose was everywhere making tackles and providing immense support.

Tom Packer collected a missed touch making great yardage down the line passing to Tom Spibey with Harry Bowles on hand to collect his 2nd try as all the defence was sucked in and Harry went in almost unopposed. Converted by Tom Packer.

In the run up to half time, Jonathan Thomas picked up from a scrum 15m out and broke the defence to score. Chris Heathcote was then the recipient of the final ball after a period of continuity. Both tires converted. H/T 38 - 5

A few subs ensuring all got a game but Newark came out firing creating the opening score of the half with a catch and drive from a line out.

Newark continued to apply some pressure and kept the game tight for the next 15 mins only to be undone by Nick Tasker & Jamie Graham recovering an attacking kick, countering with Jamie just being forced into touch. However, the line out was turned over with quick ball to Ben McGill and onto Lee Fretwell to spot the gap to go over. Converted by Packer.

A yellow card to Bingham for a high tackle evened the game up briefly before a drive gave Lee Fretwell his 2nd 50 - 10

A scrum turnover then gave Nick Tasker quick ball and the opportunity to dance through the defence until tackled just short but Newark conceded a penalty which Tom Packer took quickly too score and convert.

A final flourish from a line out steal by Oscar and close interplay with Ben McGill, Harry Bowles and Nick Tasker who again was stopped just short. Final score 57 - 10

A useful post Christmas workout and credit to Newark who showed commitment to the end.
