Nonetheless good morale going into the game and outscoring Long Eaton 5 tries to 3 with George Stewart gaining a hat trick and a final score of Long Eaton 17 - Bingham 29
Coach Dave Fairchild summarised after the game - A good 60min played then a 10 min power nap by all and a good last 10mins.
Jamie Graham scored the opener on 15 mins running back a missed clearance. Good defence then kept Long Eaton at bay and play ebbed and flowed with both teams playing in great spirit.
A try with the last play of the half off the back of a scrum from Jon Thomas gave us a 0-12 half time lead.
Playing into the wind, Bingham extended the lead to 24 with 2 tries from George Stewart and 2nd conversion from Tom Packer.
The cold seemed to lead to a period of scrappy play with both sides making handling errors and Bingham then went to sleep conceding numerous penalties allowing Long Eaton easy field positon and letting in 3 tries in a 10 minute spell.
Staring at a potential loss after being in such a dominant position, Bingham pulled themselves back together and forced a turnover; George Stewart gathering the loose ball to sprint in and make it safe at 17 - 29
A few more penalties conceded at the end tested the refs patience and eventually gave captain Lee Fretwell a yellow card. However defence held firm with no further scores.
Next week - Back to league action as we entertain Gainsborough RFC to Brendon Grove
