Bingham (6) 16 v (0) 7 Ashfield 2nds
Will Packer kicks 4 from 4, shows great game management and kicking from hand as Bingham built a lead and defended well over a strong Ashfield team to gain a superb win.
In conditions not at all conducive to an open game, Bingham rewarded supporters with some excellent passages of play and a gritty determination in defence when under long periods of pressure.
Immediately from the kickoff, Pete Mount collected the ball, drew the onrushing attackers and fed Jack Barnard who broke the line and made excellent ground. Bingham then maintained continuity and pressure for several minutes before forcing a penalty 22m out which Will Packer slotted.
From the restart, Bingham again makes inroads into the Ashfield half resulting in another Will Packer penalty 6 - 0
Bingham then defended for 15/20 minutes with some excellent tackling all round and when the Ashfield 12 did make line breaks, Pete Coppack and Adam Deal stood firm and snuffed out any opportunities.
Will Packer managed field position and the forwards provided secure ball from the line out to keep the line intact.

Halftime: Bingham 6 - 0 Ashfield
Playing into the wind in the 2nd half, what turned out to be a killer blow from the restart Bingham regained possession from debutant Harry Lister from which Bingham kept possession, recycled and worked towards the post for the artful poacher Lee Fretwell to be driven over from 1m out by Jack Barnard. Conversion by Will Packer 13 - 0
Bingham then make a break, chip over and almost regain possession but Ashfield were penalised and Will Packer made it 16 - 0
Ashfield again came back into the half dominating long periods of play and territory but Bingham worked hard for each other and managed to keep the visitors to nil until 20 minutes to go as pressure eventually told when Ashfield gained possession on the Bingham 5m line and ultimately the Bingham line was breached. 16 - 7
More pressure came from Ashfield and penalties conceded by Bingham when attacking allowed Ashfield easy field position but they were unable to turn this into points as Bingham dug in and did the basics really well in defence.
Jack Barnard, Ben Packer & Chris Heathcote all took vital lineout ball at critical stages and all replacements did a great job.
The contributions from the whole squad so far this season have been excellent and even when hit by withdrawals & injuries picked up in training, players have stepped up, no more so than this Saturday as Pete Coppack covered fullback, a position never previously played and Chris Pearman started his 1st game.
Great win and thanks to all the support on touchlines from both Ashfield & Bingham making it an excellent atmosphere both during and after match
