1st game of the season, slow start but finish with a 6 try win

Welcomed Nottingham Casuals to Brendon Grove for the 1st time for many a year and great to be playing another local club again.

Numerous bodies missing and several playing out of position and a poor start conceding 2 early tries and a penalty 0 - 13

After taking a bit of a battering in the opening 20 mins, the defence eventually got into gear and cut off easy possession and put the visitors on the back foot. Defensive pressure telling with an interception by Ben Sansom on the halfway; Will Packer adding the conversion.

The 2nd try came from Oli Dodge with an individual effort collecting a clearance just inside our half, evading the first few defenders and then just going through the gap with a great turn of pace. Will again adds the conversion. HT 14 - 13

Possession from a line out with David Fairchild breaking clean through, the forwards then recycle quickly to the backs with Tom Packer putting George Stewart clean through. 19 - 13

The ever-youthful Dave Fairchild makes another clean break, 40m before being caught and recycling the ball and just when all expecting the ball to go wide, Will Packer nips blind to Chris Bell who offloads to Pete Coppack in support. Tom Packer adds the 2 pts from the touchline 26 - 13

Almost immediately, the backs get going again; this time a deft kick into space from Tom Packer with James Seagrave chasing and putting the full back under pressure forcing the fumble for James to collect and score. Tom adds the conversion, 33 - 13

A few knocks sustained and changes to personnel and Casuals come back into it forcing a fumble at a 5m scrum and pounced on the loose ball. 33 - 25

The game effectively closed out as Pete Coppack collected kick and showed some great pace to score wide. Tom Packed added the 2 pts, 40 - 25

Chris Heathcote almost added another in the dying minutes making a clean break from half way but support too late getting to him conceded a penalty as Chris was caught.

More than a few very sore bodies after 1st game but players to come back for another friendly next week
