A good tough challenge

Bingham 20 (3)

Tries: R Green, J Thomas, A Richards, Con: J Barnard Pen: J Barnard

Newark 27 (15)

A tough game as expected as we welcomed Newark to Brendon Grove with the visitors having notched up over 200 points in 2 recent games v Corsairs

A few players out of position with injuries and unavailability but a welcome return to have Jamie Graham & Harry Bowles once again donning the shirt

A tight opening with Bingham playing a strong defensive game and Newark playing an expansive game. Alex Richards called into making early tackles out on the wing but Bingham stood firm. A penalty for Newark opened the scoring on 20 mins which was quickly cancelled out with a penalty from Jack Barnard.

Alex was then unlucky as he made an interception and went over with Newark playing out from their own 22 but was called back for an earlier Bingham infringement.

Newark created an overlap and good footwork from the winger scored in the corner. 3 - 8

Bingham matched Newark with breaks and good forward retention. Newark eventually with good offloads and support broke the line right on half time; a tough thing to take bang on half time. 3 - 15

Bingham came out in the 2nd half with good defensive pressure forcing a fumble for which Ryan Green pounced on, collected the ball and ran half the length with the Newark winger closing in but kept his composure to score. 8 - 15

Dylan Roberts kept Newark on their toes with breaks and quick penalties. after a period of pressure, Jonathan Thomas drives over the line and Newark rattled as Jack Barnard adds the conversion 15 - 15

Jamie Graham showed glimpses of what he can add and Harry Bowles added his presence when he came on. Newark pressure eventually told as they scored from a scrum after Bingham were reduced to 14.

Going into the last 5 minutes only 7 points down and a chip over led to a score in the corner for Newark 15 - 27.

With the potential of having lost a losing bonus point, the team to great credit rallied and took the game to Newark putting them on the back foot and maintaining possession until the backs were able to get the ball wide to Alex Richards to go over in the corner 20 - 27.

Probably one of the best team performances this season. Not pretty at times but a great display and just showed what we can do when we play together.

Next week away to Lincoln ll in attempt to gain revenge for a poor performance early in the season
