Bingham travelled to Long Eaton as underdogs to take on Midlands 5 champions Long Eaton and came away victorious and secured a place in NLD Vase final

Bingham went on the road after a good weekend win and with an excellent squad spirit to take on Midlands 5 champions Long Eaton this evening and put on one of the displays of the season.

After a disappointing 2nd half at Mellish on Saturday Bingham came straight out of the blocks taking the game to their opponents and with just a sniff of a gap on 5 minutes, Andy Birznieks rounded his defender and left the last man standing to go over in the corner. Converted by Tom Packer right on the touch line - what a start.

Pressure was kept on and from a poor clearance, Andy Birznieks collected the ball spotted a gap and then chipped over and won the chase to touch down 0 - 12 and just over 10 minutes.

All the forwards were just playing as one and consistently provided a good platform to attack and when the line was threatened, turnovers allowed Bingham to clear. Quick taps were taken in own half and all were keen to take it to our league opponents. Just before half time, Long Eaton slotted a penalty to make it 3 - 12

Pete Mount replaced captain courageous Jason Churchill. Now playing under lights and into a head wind, Bingham quickly reasserted dominance with 2 tries and a conversion from Tom Packer. The back row of Dylan Williams, Jon Thomas and Andy Watts making some great carries ably assisted with Lee Stokoe making his presence felt. Line Outs and scrums were won convincingly and the only worry came as Anthony Thomas left the field with a muscle pull but ably replaced by Mick Challans at Fly half against his old club.

Bingham were conceding a number of penalties but in attacking positions and Long Eaton could just not get any foothold in the game. The backs began to pass with more freedom and retained possession in contact. A line out steal and drive to the line from Dylan Williams set Tim Allatt to score close to the posts but Tom Packer miraculously pulled it wide. The score now 3 - 29.

Will North came on for Lee Fretwell and just after a move where seemed we did all could to avoid scoring, the ball eventually made its way to Tom Spibey on the wing to make it 3 - 34.

Changes to the pack brought on Ben McGill for Dylan Williams and Gareth McGahan replaced Dan Bartram at prop but no let up as Bingham once again moved the ball quickly broke tackles all across the park and thoroughly dominated with Tom Spibey going over for his 2nd and converted by Tom Packer.

Only with the last play of the game did Long Eaton seriously put any pressure on and were able to cross in the corner for a consoltaion score
