Bingham travelled to Kesteven for the 1st 5 pennant games in the run up to Christmas in the knowledge we had not beaten Kesteven for many a year and without 2 leading points scorers in Tom Packer & Andy Birznieks and a bare 16. So a reshuffled back line

Great early pressure enabled Jonathan Thomas to bag an early try. The forwards dominated the opening 10 minutes with some excellent recycling and gained 2 Anthony Thomas penalties 11 – 0. Further tries looked on with Chris Bell charging down a kick forcing turnover ball but Chris Spibey & Chris Garrod failed to make the most of an opportunity out wide as a forward pass brought the attack to a close. Andy Watts made some telling breaks from the ruck and maul but passing let us down with men over.

Bingham maintained scrum and lineout dominance but failed to increase the lead and in the last 15 minutes of the half, Kesteven began to get some possession and put phases together leading to a scrum 5 and line out where Kesteven used their backs to score and convert 11 – 7. Half time came with the game in the balance despite the early superiority.
The 1st 20 minutes of the 2nd half were eminently forgettable as Bingham failed to control the ball and allowed Kesteven to maintain possession and territory. With Kesteven continuing to press, the defence was becoming strained and a number of missed tackles provided Kesteven with a number of opportunities. Will North was the last line of defence, he will be missed over the coming weeks as his work takes him abroad. A late tackle after a clearance from Anthony Thomas led to a yellow card for Kesteven. Gareth Mcgahan on for Chris Bell and, shortly after a 2nd late tackle led to a 2nd yellow for Kesteven.
This sparked Bingham back into life and after scrum against the head and several phases, the ball found its way to Lee Stokoe with 5m to go and a powerful hand off and drive got the try to make it 16 – 7

Bingham then made further advantage of the yellow cards, taking a quick penalty and despite some poor passing, the ball found its way to the wing for a grateful Lee Fretwell to receive and fall over the line for a simple score. 21 – 7
Ben McGill was having a good day in the line out and followed this up with a great carry. A break out from Kesteven was thwarted by Will North as he showed he was more than up to the task bringing down the Kesteven player and shortly after, he recovered a clearance deep in his own half countering which led to several forward phases and eventually Pete Mount breaking the defensive line, committing the full back and offloading to Chris Garrod in support. Unfortunately another missed conversion.

Bingham finished the game in control and despite the poor spell in the 2nd half ran out worthy winners 26 – 7
An away bonus point win should see maintain league position and an updated league table will be posted on the website as soon as it is available.
