The best tonic after last weeks defeat with a great win over local rivals and 2nd in the table Newark 3rds. With other results to come in, takes us 13 pts clear with 4 games to go

Bingham were boosted with the return of Andy Birznieks after 3 months away, Nick Halstead returning from Uni, Lee Stokoe being a late availability and Dan Bartram being able to get away from work in time to make the subs bench.

A glorious afternoon could not have started better as Bingham KO, recover the ball put several phases together before Nick Halstead rounded the defence to score in the corner 5 - 0

Newark responded and trapped Bingham in own half and all indications were this was going to be a tough afternoon. Good defense kept Newark at bay and after 5 mins of pressure a clearance kick took play right into the Newark 22, Ball retention was key and after forwards took it blind, a gap opened for Tom Packer for a simple touchdown. Converted by Anthony Thomas 12 -0 after 20 mins.

Further good defence and good line out work from Ben McGill set the backs running and held up in the corner. a quick penalty taken and with a certain try begging, the ball was spilled. An interception led to a great kick chase and whilst Newark cleared, Bingham collected the ball and Nick Halstead found himself on the wing to score in the corner 17 - 0 and half time

The Newark scrum half made a clear break early in the 2nd half and led to a penalty 17 - 3

Nick Halstead was creating space almost at will but with a 2 on 1 kept the ball but tackled and cleared. The Bingham scrum was dominant and clean ball had Chris Garrod making a break only to be held 1m out. A quick penalty and Mark Miller forces his way over - converted by Tom Packer 24 - 3.

Bingham now playing with confidence and sometimes too confident as individuals took on too much instead of taking the easier options. Newark made a clean break and with the line begging made a forward pass. Bingham responded and quick hands put Nick Halstead into space who popped to Neil Ellis to score in the corner - converted by Tom Packer 31 - 3.

To Newarks credit they persisted and put pressure on in the last 10 mins and managed a score in the corner and converted 31 -10

Full time and a terrrific win against a good Newark side with one or two 2nd team players - some excellent line out work and scrummaging giving the platform for the backs .

A 13 point margin now in the league over Newark with only 4 league matches left
