With almost a full team unavailable, Bingham welcomed Keyworth to Brendon Grove with several key players missing but enjoyably had Anton Malia making a return to the squad after 2 years out.
Oli Dodge opened the scoring on 5 mins as Bingham moved the ball from 1 side to the other but this was quickly cancelled out after a Keyworth catch and drive.
Keenly scrapped with Keyworth relying on forward scrum strength and Bingham using the line out and backs and a penalty from Andy Price returning after badly split head last time out edged Bingham ahead with a penalty.
The lead was extended as Bingham gained territory won scrum possession and got the ball to Jamie Graham who split the defence; Andy Price added the conversion to make it 15 – 5
Some solid defence kept Keyworth at bay until a drive off a scrum 5 brought the score back to 15 – 12 and half time came without any more scoring.
The second half was dominated with Bingham possession and territory but a combination of good defence and Bingham lacking the decisive passage of play and losing control of the ball at crucial time kept the score line close.
A missed penalty did nothing to calm the nerves of spectators until Bingham put together several phases of possession; again getting the ball wide, this time Chris Bell finding himself 10 m out and looking to score but popped a pass to Ian Taylor to gain the decisive score 20 – 12
Not until 10 mins left did Keyworth manage to get into the Bingham 22 and resolute defence did not allow Keyworth any opportunity.
A crunching tackle from Jordan Crosse and consistent defence from Jamie Graham characterised a whole team effort.
Bingham won the game with a great team graft, some good patches of play, three good tries, but also making errors and having things to continue to work on as we rebuild.
