Playing with the wind, Bingham took the lead with a Chris Heathcote try but was countered as Gainsborough fought back with a converted try.
A Pete Mount try was disallowed when all around were pretty sure he had grounded and Bingham had to wait until the 30th minute when Will Packer slotted a penalty to gain back the lead.
Whilst the weather and pitch did not help, Bingham turned down many an opportunity and overlap to score and consolidate. Half time came with a slender 8 - 7 lead but now playing into a strong headwind.
Excellent defence with the backs marshaled by Andy price & Alex Richards limited Gainsborough to speculative clearances which were gobbled up by Jamie Graham & Oscar Ciaurro.
Following a good period of pressure and working the way to the Gainsborough line, Will Packer took a quick penalty as a gap in the defence was exploited and despite awful conditions underfoot, Pete Mount extended the lead.
Bingham maintained consistent pressure and gained further reward after recycling the ball several times and getting the ball wide to Oscar to score in the corner.
Several additional chances came and went but with little opportunity given to Gainsborough to get back in the game to gain a relatively comfortable win in the end despite the conditions. Final score 18 - 7
