Bingham stuns Mansfield Woodhouse with a blistering 2nd half after a tight 1st half.

After a closely-fought first half, it was Bingham who came out on top, with some clinical finishes in the 2nd half

A repeat of last season’s loss was potentially on the cards as Woodhouse got the 1st try from a rolling maul after a 5m line out and were almost 2 tries to the good as a fumble in the Woodhouse half allowed the Woodhouse scrum half to run almost the length but was tackled as he was about to go over.

Bingham slowly worked their way up the pitch and lost possession from a rolling maul but from a resultant Woodhouse scrum, Ben Packer sped from the scrum to charge down the clearance kick which found its way to Lee Fretwell to score unopposed under the posts 5-7
Woodhouse dominated the scrums for a good 15-minute spell and the stop / start nature of the game suited the home side.

Good defence from the Bingham backs kept some dangerous attacks at bay until a lineout and run around the blind side and conversion put Woodhouse back in the lead 12-7

The game started to change in Bingham’s favour 5 mins before halftime as possession was maintained, controlled & Ben Packer took a recycled ball to cross the line & score 12-12.

Bingham then attacked straight from the restart and eventually got the ball to Jamie Graham in a little space who shrugged off a couple of challenges to score. Matt Cumming added his 2nd conversion 12-19 and half time came.

The 2nd half could not have started better; a knock on from Woodhouse with Bingham regaining possession, Matt Cumming making an initial break and feeding George Stewart to score. Matt added the conversion

A quickly taken penalty from Matt Cumming then caught Woodhouse napping as the score was extended to 12 – 33

A charge down almost led to another George Stewart try before Woodhouse exerted some pressure forcing Bingham to concede penalties and a yellow card. Deft feet from the Woodhouse 10 allowed him in under the posts 19- 33

Woodhouse then forced too hard in an attempt to get back in the game and Chris Garrod intercepted on Bingham’s 22 and almost scored linking in with Matt Cumming but the ball was dropped close to the line. Bingham maintained pressure though and forced a penalty 5m out which was taken quickly and a determined Will Packer drove over to score 19 – 38

A break from the Bingham 22 led to another converted score before the backs were able to get George Stewart free and race in from halfway to finally kill the game 19 – 52

From a really tough mid-season, Bingham finished the season on a high with 2 wins from the last 3 games and managed to get off the bottom of the table and climb above Woodhouse & Keyworth.

A focus now on recruitment and rebuilding over the summer and anyone interested in playing will be warmly welcomed.
We have started O2 touch on Thursday evenings and will move to the Rugby Club Thursday 3 May from the Leisure Centre Tennis courts
