Bingham travelled to unbeaten Amber Valley and put up a tremendous effort against early table toppers and last years league 3 team despite a mounting injury list almost big enough to get a 3rd team out.
Dreadful conditions for both teams but both fully committed. Early kicking duel slightly in Binghams favour with 1 kick and chase almost gaining possession close to the Amber Valley line and a missed penalty on 10 mins
Once again pressure on the scrums as Bingham come up against another large pack and having lost a scrum 20 m out, conceded a penalty and Amber Valley took the lead 3 – 0 close on half time
Disappointing coming in at half time down 3 points having put pressure on Amber Valley forcing more penalties than conceding and playing some decent Rugby despite the conditions
The 2nd half did not start well with an Amber Valley Scrum on half way breaking from the back row and last line of defence forced a penalty to clear the lines.
Unfortunately Bingham were unable to make the best of the wind and gain territory in the 2nd half until the last 15 mins by which time Amber Valley had scored the only try of the game after a forward drive.
A missed penalty from Bingham and a fumble behind the line by Amber Valley was crucial point in the half as we were unable to capitlise on the error and subsequent scrum and territory.
Disappointment at the result but great optimism remains as we continue to challenge the opposition and have now played 3 of the top 4 teams
